Abbiamo chiesto all’Archivio Storico Comunale.
Eccola in versione integrale
n. 130.

Domenico Ialacci was born in Vasto in 1826. He was married twice.
He married his first wife, Serafina Vinciguerra in 1854, when 28 and she was 19. They had 9 children together. Their daughter Anna Maria died at the age of 5 in 1866. The twins, Francesca and Luigi, died shortly after their births in 1868. They lived on via Stanziani in Vasto, which is now called via Buonconsiglio, located on the side of San Giuseppe Cathedral. They lived in a home that was above a stable and on 21 Nov 1870, there was a lantern that was knocked over by a donkey and started a fire. Tragically, Serafina along with 3 of their children; Cesario, age 4, Giuseppe, age 6, and Luigi, age 7 months (they had another son they named Luigi after the first Luigi died), and Domenico's mother, Anna Maria di Rosa, age 75, were killed in the fire. According to a descendant of Antonio, the fire was massive. Domenico escaped by jumping out of a window with the other children. Three children survived the fire; Their oldest son Pasquale, who died at the age of 15 the following year in 1871, Grazia, age 15, and Antonio age 11. Antonio went on to marry Maria Michele Gileno and had three children. Maria Michele Gileno died in 1888. Antonio then married Chiaravita D'Adamo in 1888 and Grazia married Sebastiano Raspa in 1875.
Domenico then married Maria Rita Marchesani, who was also a widow, on 26 Jun 1871. Maria Rita was first married to Vincenzo D’Adamo who died in 1867. Domenico was 44 and she was 30 years old. They went on to have five children. The first four children were born in Vasto and then some time between 1878-1883 they moved to San Salvo where their fifth child, Luigi, was born. Maria Rita Marchesani died in San Salvo in 1894. She was only 53. It is unknown whether or not Domenico remarried but there were no marriage documents showing this in San Salvo through 1900 so it would have been after 1900 if he did remarry. His death date is unknown but is believed to be after 1900 since there was no death record for him between 1894-1900 in San Salvo and he was alive at the time of Maria Rita’s death. There was no death record found for him in Vasto between 1894-1900, however, there are some years that the death records are missing on the microfilm for Vasto.
So my great grandfather, Giuseppe Ialacci, was the son of Domenico and his second wife Maria Rita Marchesani. The oldest photo I have is of Giuseppe Ialacci and my great grandmother Antonia Carlantonio. I don’t have any photos of Domenico or any of the children who survived the fire. I’ve attached it if you could like to use it.

130. Reconstruction costs for the fire of November 21, 1870.
Published December 10, 1870
Referring to the fire disaster occurred in this city on the night of November 21 last this administration has met lire spending two hundred thirty-seven lira and thirty-five cents for wages to laborers used for removing the rubble, and to recover the surplus of that stuff , both to find the bodies swallowed by these ruins.
The President therefore giving reading of the relevant details, which the Council examines thoroughly, approving them one by one, calls to settle the payment through of the Municipal Secretary for the performance, basing on art. 56 cat.8 two hundred lire and art. 29.cat.4 the residual lire thirty and thirty-five cents.
Not opposed the proposal, the President declared adopted.
And referring to the above subject, councillor Mayo Dermino, as appendix to the object pre-mentioned proposes the following agenda.
It is publicly known
that the Mayor Mr. Ciccarone cav. Silvio members of the City Council were the first local authorities that warned of the imminence of the danger threatening the city; with bringing together the disaster site all the best means to tame the terrible fire.
That forgetting that the degree, civil status, family responsibilities, inspired only by the common good, faced with admirable self-denial any danger from the threatening and intrusive flames until it comes with certain life-threatening on the height of the gutters on the roof of the former Convent of the Augustinian aware that below it was stocked four quintals of gun powder to explode at the first spark that could reach there.
That the salvation of the three children of the Ialaccis in the burnt house is exclusively due to fervent incitements of Mr. Ciccarone who ordered them throw themselves naked from the windows.
That, in addition to the admiration aroused in all who assisted to the event, manifest signs of his civil courage are the shoes that burned and burns suffered along the length of the region of the right arm, to determine that any value are due to Mr. Ciccarone, who merits the most beautiful town recognition note.
Abstracting from voting for mayor and council, the draft agenda was adopted with manifest signs of heartfelt gratitude.
